Hi Everyone, I'm currently restoring my 1976 Harley Davidson Aermacchi SS250. I was just recently introduced to this Italian Harley Davidson and was lucky to find one in my area for only $400.00. The best part about the deal was it had a valid TITLE! As many of you know, it's difficult to find an old bike, let alone an obscure bike, that has a title and regi. While the bike was old, it didn't have any rust or missing parts.

The prior owner had it for 15 years in his basement and hadn't started it. He just parked it.

Anyway, I brought the bike home in the back of my Bronco. Like a kid with a new toy I began searching the internet for any information about these bikes when I ran across the original Harley repair manual in PDF format.

Jezz, I love the internet! While the motor would kick over, it wouldn't start. Did I mention this is a kick start bike? So with the help of my buddy and the wiring diagram, I found the problem. The prior owner misplaced two wires on the ignition module. I corrected the wiring mistake and after about 20 or so kicks, the bike started.

Since then, I've purchased and install all new carb Jets and choke and now she starts on one or two kicks. My leg is very grateful. Currently I'm starting to restore the smaller parts, Kick Stand, Kick Start, etc and once it warms up here in the Mountains of New York, I plan on painting it myself. I was surprised to find out that while this bike is only a 250 CC 2-Stroke, the bike it self is the same size as an old Harley Sportster. That's a good thing because I'm 6' 3'. Well, that's about it for now.

This is a great site and look forward to chatting with everyone. Have a great day. Ed - Clifton Park, NY 1976 Harley Davidsion Aermacchi SS250.

Morning Ed and welcome to the Forum! Dang, sounds great! And don't we all know it?! As you say finding BOTH a nice old scoot AND a clear (no funny business?!) title?! Almost unheard of (especially on eBay and the like)! Yeah, let's hear it FOR these old 'AMF' classics, hey?! AMF circa machines (I have another 1981 Shovel at the moment) are becoming quite collectible now at least (if not overly valuable), hope we can keep em’ forever?!;-) I always did like that Aermacchi 250 ring-dinger single (the SX?

‘Enduro’ version) and would still love to have some day (preferably NOT in ½ a dozen boxes for an arm and a leg!)! Seriously the way I ride in the dirt (slow as molasses) even mid-seventies short travel off road suspension is probably adequate for me?!;-) Hope you’ll be posting lots of pix of your SS (street) version soon?!
