Hello again from the Oil Patch. Anything special we need to know to do an oil change on our 06 Int. 8600 Cummins 11L?

  1. Isx 475 Cummins 2006

We usually use Shell Rottela oil and Baldwin filters. We are in the 90's outside temp wise this time of year and this is a city truck. What weight oil is recommended for city driving/use. How much oil does it take? One thing I see is a filter by the turbo. Is this for the oil feed to the turbo? What about crankcase ventilation?

Any filters or PCV type valves? Anything special about start up after the oil change? Should you prime the system, if so how, before start up? Is there a ' Engine Service' light reset procedure? Our truck has 495K miles on it's clock. Thanks in advance for any help/wisdom. With so many questions, are you sure you want to do it yourself. For the oil, use what the manual recommends.

In 06, most of the maufacturer used 15W40.Pre-fill filters before installation as long as they are installed upright. Tighten to specs. Avoid tools, which could cause deformation of filter and damage it.The fuel system might need extra priming. Refer to owners manual for procedure. The small filter on the turbo side might be a coolant filter. The turbo gets its oil straight from the engine without extra external filtration. Follow the lines to where they're hooked up to figure out what's in there.

If necessary lossen a clamp or fitting to see the fluid while engine is shut down. Fill up oil through the fill cap and not through the dip stick. Fill to max and start engine till it builds up oil pressure. Have it running for a few minutes.

Cummins isx troubleshooting

Shut down and check for leaks. When installing the oilfilter, make sure the flange AND your hands are clean. Makes it easier to check for leaks when residue is cleaned before installation.

Let the oil settle now for about 20 minutes. It's a good time to change the fuelfilter at this point or do the grease job. When done check oil level and top up to max.

DON'T top up oil to max immediately after initial start and shut down. Too much oil is in the head. Topping up at this point makes you overfill the engine.
