Something random re servicing: Out of boredom/procrastinating about studying for uni exams, I was checking out the Kymco Italy website (www.kymco.it) The section for the Kymco Like 125 on the Italian website allows you to download a number of things, including the user/service manual. The Italian version is MUCH better.

It provides much more detailed info, but interestingly, the service part recommends that the scooter be serviced every 4000kms (minor service) and major service at 8000 km intervals (see pg 62 of the italian manual, link above). The Australian version of the manual recommends much shorter service intervals, which even my dealer says are too short and does not follow. The scooter is exactly the same as the Australian delivered one, comes out of the same factory. Why the difference? Well then that begs the question. What if we decide to follow the Italian version?? If, as you say Emilio, everything is otherwise the same, then surely, in the event we ran into trouble with the warranty, we could use this to get ourselves out of hot water?

I know my blokes who serviced my Like were surprised that I would be back within a few weeks for the next service. And they actually are Wollongong's Kymco agents. I'll check out the link, but expect the manual is actually written in Italian? Entropy order parameters and complexity solutions manual. I'll be a long time on the google translator this time!

Back again - yep. (Who'd have thought?). But you're so right about it's content.

How thorough is that? I guess in Italy, where they sell over 20,000 scooters a month (so Allen stated in 2007), they don't need to make so much money out of servicing. They probably want people to do their own work! Love it Emilio! Will download it and keep it. The diagrammes and photo's are great! Now, off to google.

Now get back to your study and stop procrastinating! Emilio, just wondering if you noticed anywhere on that Italian site where you can download the manual in English?

I know it's a long shot, but there's a lot of pages and that's a lot of googling. Am convinced there must be an easier way. Hey Lizzie, I've taken another look, there is no english one available unfortunately.

It's probably not worth your time translating the entire thing, there were just some sections which we miss out on in the aussie version of the manual that I though were particularly useful for us amateurs! Especially stuff like instructions on adjusting the suspension settings, throttle freeplay, brakes, replacing globes (there is also a seperate complete electrical circuit diagram), replacing spark plugs and other good maintenance stuff. Also the periodic service schedule and what to check/change and when. The warranty in Italy is 2 years so me thinks the Australian importer are covering there backs by having short service intervals to cover there cost of the 4 year warranty.

I reckon 4 years of servicing would cost more than just replacing the scooter Pyrah, according to all my documents which came with the scooter, I only have a two year warranty. It says two years in the big glossy brochure, and also the warranty booklet. I'm sure if it were four years it'd be emblazened in a really obvious place, but it aint!

So sounds like your theory just went down the gurgler. Here is the latest update on life so far with the Kymco Like 125. Have clocked over 4000km since March 30th this year, went it for its first 'real' service today, next one is scheduled for 8000km (won't be long!) Well being my first scooter, I can't offer a huge amount of comparative insight, but its has never failed to start, it has never stalled, eveything works just the way it did when I got it (except it's now been run in). Commutes just fine and will hit an idicated 105km/h on the freeway, but happily sits at a max of 90km/h in my opinion. So can't really complain. Just wondering, the reciept from my service today list the following things as having been done: 1.

Replaced Engine Oil 2. Replaced Gear Oil 3. Replaced Spark Plug 4. Battery Checked 5. Charging System Checked 6.

Front and Rear Brake Pads, Disc, Fluid Checked 7. Tyre Wear Checked 8. Set Tyre Pressures 9. Lubricated Pivot Points (Levers, Stands, Footrests) 10. Steering Checked 11. Lights, Indicators, Horn Checked 12.

Adjusted Throttle Freeplay 13. Engine Idle Speed Checked 14. Road Tested Is the above what you would normally expect to be done at a service? I really have no idea, and I just want to be sure that all bases are being covered.

Kymco Like 125 Service Manual

Is there anything that you think should have been checked/changed that doesn't appear on the list? Hmm clean the air filter.is this something that I can easily figure out to do myself Pyrah?

Kymco Repair Manual

Emilio, this should be a pretty simple process. You'd probably need a compressor to clean it, though. You simply remove the air filter (it lifts out of the hole it's in), and blow all the dust out of it, until it's looking a whole lot cleaner, then replace it. I seem to recall doing this for my cars when I was a teenager. (But that was a looooonnnng time ago, so maybe they do things differently these days, or maybe scooters are different???). Frankly, I think if there are a couple of things your service people have forgotten to do, take it back and get them to do it, if it's not too much inconvenience for you.

You've paid for the service, may as well get your money's worth. You may find they simply forgot to add it to the list.
